The following information is on how to apply your child for a place in Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School - Alford

To register your child for the Entrance Test there are two pathways:

If your child attends a primary school within our designated transport area (as listed below), and is in Year 5, registration forms will be distributed by your child’s primary school in January. These should be returned to your primary school by Friday 20 March 2026 indicating whether or not you wish your child to take part in the testing process.

If your child is from outside our school’s designated transport area, and they do not sit their 11+ tests in their primary school, they can be tested at our school if we are your preferred choice for secondary education; to discuss this further and request a registration form you should email a.duff@queenelizabeths.co.uk who will acknowledge receipt within 7 working days.

In order to make an informed choice please do look at our online prospectus and come and visit us; either on our Open Evening, which is on 2 July 2025, or by making an appointment to come to the school during the working day when our headteacher, Mr Thompson, will give you a guided tour and you can get a real flavour of what we have to offer. We encourage parents to contact the school again in October, or indeed throughout the year, should they feel they need discuss any outstanding issues or concerns with the Headteacher or his PA, Mrs A Duff.

Every year, in September Year 6 children sit their 11+ tests, the dates of which are listed in our useful dates document attached.

To be eligible for a place in Year 7 at one of Lincolnshire's grammar schools, children must demonstrate that they have reached the required standard for entry as determined by 11 plus testing. The qualifying level is a total standardised score of at least 220 on both papers. Results of the tests will be sent to parents by email in mid-October (a list of useful dates is available on our website). Where email is not available they will be posted first class.

The final state in the application process is to complete an online application with your local authority. The best way to do this is to apply at school admissions where you can make three preferences. A copy of the Lincolnshire School Admissions Guide is available via our website using the links below.

The LEA review test results, and together with parental choices determine who gains a place at the school. The school is not involved in offering places or determining who does or does not get a place. Passing the test is not a guarantee of a place at the school. A copy of our Admissions Policy is published on our school website annually.
